An eye catching battle!

Art Battle!

We attended the Art Battle Bo’s Bar & Grill in Red Deer this week, and wow, it was exciting. Its basically a contest to see who can create the best painting in 20 minutes. The audience votes for their favorites, and can bid on them in the silent or live auction! It is really nice to watch how quickly these talented individuals can work, and how the image develops. I encourage you to attend one of these in your area if you have even a little bit of interest in art. They are held several times a year and the finalists get to go to NATIONALS!

From Art Battle:
Art Battle® is live competitive painting. Painters create the best work they can in 20 minutes. As they work, patrons move around the easels, closely watching the creative process. The medium is acrylic paint and the tools allowed are brushes, palette knives or any non-mechanical implements. At the end of the round, the audience votes democratically for their favourite painting and bids in silent auction to take the work home. Art Battle is World Wide, check out more info on our website.

We Wish You All a Very Thankful Thanksgiving Weekend!

Thankful on Thanksgiving?!

“Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.” — E.P. Powell

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” — John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Have You ever wondered when the first Thanksgiving celebration was held in Canada? First Nations people held their dances and rituals regarding a time of Thanks long before the first Europeans arrived on Turtle Island. You can watch & learn one of their Thank You songs here
Then in 1578 Explorer Martin Frobisher held a Celebration of Thanksgiving for surviving his journey from England. Next that we know of, were the French settlers in 1606 with Samuel de Champlain. If you wish to know some more Canadian Thanksgiving history details, you can find some here
Did you know that some countries & peoples other than Canada & USA also celebrate a time of Thanksgiving or a Harvest Festival? China, Brazil, Malaysia, India, Korea, Norfolk Island. Liberia, Puerto Rico, Germany, Grenada, Japan, Vietnam, the city of Leiden in the Netherlands, the Accra region of Ghana & Jews celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot. Do you celebrate a time of Thanksgiving? How and when do you celebrate it? What are 3 things you are Thankful for this past year?

“Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.” — Edward Sandford Martin

“A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all the other virtues.” — Cicero

“If a fellow isn’t thankful for what he’s got, he isn’t likely to be thankful for what he’s going to get.” — Frank A. Clark

Framing Progress – Flag & Watch

Framed Sutter Brothers Golf Flag & Watch!

Recently we completed a nice framing job for Gary of Red Deer. He had a golf flag with all the Sutter brothers’ signatures on them. He was given a watch for assisting them in the early days and as a thank you for supporting them.

Gary wanted to enjoy the memories so he had The Framing Nook acquire some very early cards for each of the players and add it to the mix. When it was done, we delivered the job and hung it on his wall. He was really happy with the way it turned out – and that definitely makes all of us happy too!

What is better than having a chat with Red Deer’s finest artists at work on their projects. It was a lot of fun this past week – as a framer I really admire the talent of these individuals. Here are just a few pics of what we saw! If this sounds interesting – check out Bo’s schedule for the upcoming Art Battle!
